Things to Do at Rainbow Beach Xinjiang
The Wucaitan (Colorful Beach) scenic area is compact, stretching about 1 kilometer in depth. Multiple boardwalks and viewing platforms have been constructed within the park. Visitors can simply walk along the boardwalks to take in the sights, with a typical visit lasting around 2 hours. Photography enthusiasts may require more time.
The optimal time to visit Wucaitan (Colorful Beach) is in the late afternoon before sunset. Due to the arid climate and flat terrain, the area often experiences extended periods of golden or crimson sunset light, creating stunningly beautiful reflections on the multicolored landscapes.

The scenic area's entrance is located on the east bank of the river. Upon entry, you'll first encounter a plaza featuring sculptures, craft shops, restaurants, and other structures.
To the right of the plaza stands an art gallery showcasing paintings and calligraphy related to Xinjiang. Silicified fossils of ancient trees are displayed in front of the gallery—a quick look is sufficient. The left side of the plaza borders the Erqis River, where several viewing platforms offer vantage points for photographing the river and the poplar forests across the water.
At the end of the plaza, follow the wooden boardwalk to reach the colorful hills of Wucaitan (Colorful Beach). Unlike typical red-and-yellow Yadan or Danxia landscapes, these hills display a spectrum of colors—red, yellow, green, blue, purple, and black. They feature both gentle, rounded mounds and rugged, jagged cliffs, dazzlingly beautiful under the setting sun. Across the river, the poplar forest stands dense and majestic, turning brilliant gold in autumn. From the viewing platform, capturing Wucaitan (Colorful Beach), the river, and the poplar forest across the water creates a rare, magnificent panorama. Stroll leisurely along the wooden boardwalk for a full loop, returning to the entrance as the sun sets.
