The Tianshan Grand Canyon is hailed as one of China's ten most beautiful canyons.

The Tianshan Grand Canyon is hailed as one of China's ten most beautiful canyons. Located at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains in an inland arid region, the canyon is characterized by fine sand and clear springs that flow gently, creating a unique and breathtaking landscape. The mystical Tianshan Grand Canyon is also one of the important tourist destinations along the Silk Road in Xinjiang.

The Tianshan Grand Canyon in Xinjiang is situated at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains, approximately 70 kilometers from the county seat of Kuche, near the 1026-kilometer mark on National Highway 217. The canyon runs east-west, spanning approximately 5.5 kilometers in length. It was formed by the erosion of red rock over millions of years, creating a magnificent natural wonder. Here, towering odd-shaped rocks, layered peaks, steep cliffs, and deep ravines create a breathtaking landscape. The width of the canyon bottom varies significantly, with the widest point reaching 53 meters and the narrowest point only 0.4 meters wide, barely allowing a person to squeeze through sideways. The Kizil Thousand-Buddha Caves site within the canyon is also worth visiting. Carved during the prosperous Tang Dynasty, it is located along an ancient transportation route and attracts an increasing number of tourists with its breathtaking scenery.

Kizil Thousand-Buddha Caves

The caves on the cliff walls are the cultural highlight of this trip. The caves still have Tang Dynasty Buddhist murals, though small in scale, they hold significant artistic and historical value, reflecting the cultural exchange between the Western Regions and Central China at the time.

Tianmen Cave

A naturally eroded rock cave, it resembles a giant door opening when viewed from afar, serving as a prominent natural landmark in the middle section of the canyon with a strong visual impact.
