Day 1-2: Hohhot tour
As the capital of Inner Mongolia, Hohhot is the best starting point for your Hohhot tour to understand grassland civilization.
On Day 1, we’ll visit the Inner Mongolia Museum – home to China’s most complete collection of historical artifacts from northern nomadic peoples, including the world’s largest Cretaceous dinosaur fossils and mammoth specimens, transporting you through time to witness ancient nomadic civilizations.
On Day 2, we head to the Xilamuren Grassland, a world-famous alpine meadow where summer wildflowers create picturesque scenes. Warm-hearted Mongolian hosts will welcome you with traditional sour mare’s milk wine. Here, you can gallop on horseback, visit herder families, and experience authentic Grassland adventure. In the afternoon, enjoy free time on the grassland – revisit horseback riding or relax on a hillside watching the sunset paint the plains gold. As night falls, sleep in your Grassland Stargazing Yurt under starlight, embracing grassland serenity.
Day 4: Ulanhad volcano – Journey to Mars
Bid farewell to the grasslands and journey to the Ulanhad volcano, renowned as "China’s most extraterrestrial landscape". Over 30 volcanic cones dot the terrain. You’ll hike to the summit of Volcano #3 (North Alchemy Furnace) for breathtaking views of the crater and vast plains.
The contrast of black basalt against green grasslands mimics a sci-fi alien world. If conditions allow, we’ll camp at the volcano base for stargazing, immersing you in this pristine wilderness.
Day 5-6: Xiangshawan desert
Next, discover the Xiangshawan desert, one of China’s four great "singing sand" destinations. When winds rise or sand slides, grains emit mysterious roars – earning the name "Ringing Sand".
Experience camel trekking, thrilling desert sledding, or off-road dune bashing. Alternatively, unwind at the luxurious Lotus Resort. At dusk, desert sunsets dye the sky crimson-gold – a photographer’s paradise.
Day 7: Return to Hohhot
